We recently spoke with the lads at RVCA who are basing themselves out of J Bay about there plans regarding the brand and setting up a new team in SA, this is what they had to say. “Two words - high profi le, RVCA only want A grade skaters that have A grade sponsors, RVCA has a certain high-end image to uphold so the skate team should also refl ect that. These are the fundementals that we are sticking to in South Africa. Just as the surf team has presence in and out of the ocean, the skate team causes noises on and off the streets. Ranging from acclaimed skate icon and world renown artist/photographer Ed Templeton, to bicoastal trend setter Kevin ‘Spanky’ Long, RVCA’s skate teams extra curricular activities gain the brand as much notoriety as their skating. On the home front we have Loucas Polydorou who has just come back from Spain shooting a 35mm movie for Famalia. Loucas is a straight forward kind of guy that says it like it is, as is his skating. Travelling the world year round, the skate team, like all skateboarders, are cynical about blantant ‘promotion’ and rather just wear a brand that because they are paid to, many members actually contribute to seasonal design, futher giving RVCA the ability tp provide them with a movement, or lifestyle that is something true and real.” Check out -
